A deal between the French government and e-commerce giant, Alibaba, allows the promotion of French brands to the Chinese market.
The online platform that Alibaba provides will not only give French companies an outlet to sell their products to currently the largest market, but give Chinese consumers the flexibility of purchasing quality products without the hassle of visiting France.
French Foreign Minister, Laurent Fabius, said “we are confident it will significantly widen the choice of French products available for Chinese consumers…and more Chinese customers to discover French brands through a modern system of distribution.
The French brands will be sold on Tmall.com (a subsidiary of Alibaba), initially through a promotional campaign called ‘Elegance of France’ to deliver more that 30 brands online, with limited-edition products to draw in Chinese consumers.
